Our Elf

For Luc's birthday Aunt Mary purchased him the neatest book--The Elf on The Shelf. It comes with your very own elf and a neat story about how the elf watches over the child throughout the day during the holiday and then reports back to Santa each night--letting him know if they have been naughty or nice. Then each morning, the elf returns and finds a new spot in the house--a shelf, a desk, counter--wherever. What a neat tradition to start! The book even includes a spot to fill in the name you pick for your magical elf and the date the tradition began. So, here we are pleased to introduce....Willie the Elf (Lucas named him this after much discussion.)
Willie made his holiday debut early in December, first appearing on my pile of Harry Potter books. That morning I had to help Lucas look for his elf and remind him not to touch the elf (or else he looses his magical powers--the author clearly has children of her very own!). Lucas was in awe of the elf and seemed very shy around him, which was pretty cute. I quickly discovered Willie was a powerful tool--whenever Lucas started to misbehave, I would tell Willie he needed to be sure to tell Santa about this and Lucas would start to cry and beg me not to tell Willie. (I am going to hell.) After the first few days of Willie appearing on shelves I was running out of creative places for him to be each morning...then Willie decided to get frisky. One morning I caught him hogging the remote and watching adult TV...
But he looks so cute being mischievous! The next day he was a very bad elf, though. I caught him having a holiday toddy...
Elves really shouldn't drink Tequila because what happened next wasn't pretty...
After that, Willie and I had a little chat about appropriate behaviour for Santa's workforce and things got a little better. The next day I caught him doing a little light reading...
Ahhh..wait, he was just trying to fall asleep. Anesthesia Review puts Josh to sleep every time.
Anyway--Lucas loves looking for Willie each morning and has gotten much less shy about talking to him--he has been sassy and told me to tell "That Elf" that he WAS being good. I am looking forward to many years of Elf stories!! Thanks for the cool gift AM!!

Christy, I followed Carrie's link to your site, and your elf post is hilarious. Your kiddos are adorable, and as much as Lucas is a clone of Josh, Alex looks like you. Looking forward to seeing you, I hope, at Laxmi's wedding. :) Colleen
