The Roller Coaster of Life

In 1989 I watched a movie that I still love to this day, "Parenthood." The older I get, the more I really appreciate this movie. One of my favorite scenes from this highly quotable movie goes something like this:

Gil (the dad) has been complaining about his complicated life; Grandma wanders into the room
Grandma: You know, when I was nineteen, Grandpa took me on a roller coaster.
Gil: (uninterested) Oh?
Grandma: Up, down, up, down. Oh, what a ride!
Gil: (very condescendingly) What a great story.
Grandma: I always wanted to go again. You know, it was just so interesting to me that a ride could make me so frightened, so scared, so sick, so excited, and so thrilled all together! Some didn't like it. They went on the merry-go-round. That just goes around. Nothing. I like the roller coaster. You get more out of it.

Grandma was of course talking about LIFE and not a roller coaster. Here in the Chance household we have been riding the roller coaster. And I like it...but today, I am ready for a little merry go round.

Saturday was UP UP UP!!! Lucas' birthday party was great--he had so much fun and I had a good time watching him be so delighted with everything. I will post pics and more info on the big day sometime tomorrow after I finish editing the photos.

Saturday night...was a real downer. As soon as the kids fell asleep I realized I was SICK. Like REALLY sick--throwing up and all that. It lasted for what seemed like eons (really just about twenty four hours) but it kicked me in the butt. Thanks goodness my parents were in town and could help out with the kids, cuz if they hadn't been here I think that Lucas would have reported me to social services. As it is they may be after me because I let my son watch the "Cuddle Buddies" on repeat for SIX hours Sunday afternoon. Just the thought of that CD makes me want to vomit right now.

Then this morning I finally felt human enough to do some chores and I though "hmm...I've been sick, so I better wash all of our bedding". So I scooped up all the sheets and blankets and threw them in the wash and felt really good about being productive...until about thirty minutes later when I realized my cell phone was missing. You know, the one I take to bed with me because I use it as a back up alarm clock (never need the alarm, though, since the kids always get me up. But I keep hoping...) You get where this is going right? After a frantic search of the house I knew deep in my soul that the phone was in the wash. And of course, this being the roller coaster ride from HELL today, it was indeed in the wash. Completely filled with water. And uninsured. Naturally.

So there it is--If you need to get in touch with me I will be on the merry go round of life for a few simpler days. Leave a message at the beep!
