Me: Hey Lucas--see these magazines mommy got in the mail? Want to pick out some toys in them for Santa to bring?
Lucas: (absolute PANIC in his voice) I NOT WANT SANTA TO COME!!
Me: What? (absolute SHOCK in my voice...we've not even TALKED about Santa lately...like in a year.)
Lucas: (getting really distressed because I didn't immediately say Santa wasn't coming...) I NOT WANT SANTA TO COME!! I NOWANSANTATOCOME!!! (tears begin) NO SANTA!! NO SANTA IN OUR HOUSE!
Me: Okay buddy, calm down! Calm down. Why do you not want Santa to come? He brings toys to good little boys and girls.
Lucas: (a little calmer, but still clearly upset). NO No toys. No Santa and no toys. (continues to chant this for several moments until he is distracted by me balancing a pickle on my nose. We are eating lunch.)
So there you have it folks. Christmas is cancelled. We are going to become Jewish and invite the holiday armadillo to our house instead (you must be a die hard "Friends" fan to get this reference...) Okay, not really, but for real--who has been telling my child that Santa is Satan? Cuz he is terrified of jolly old nick and his belly of jelly. On the good side? Christmas isn't really about Santa, so I can work with this--emphasis on the birth of Christ is a GOOD thing. And I won't have to sell a kidney to spring for pictures with Santa. That is a relief.

I can't wait to torture Peanut with another terrified santa picture.
I think him being a little scared is common. I have heard that some young kids don't like the idea of some man coming into their house down the chimney, which makes sense.
big sis is convinced that santa is bringing her a camera. she hasn't thought about getting anywhere near santa yet - that may be an event she isn't interested in this year!
Well we teach them about stranger danger so maybe he thinks that Santa is a "stranger." Maybe a few cartoons with a friendly Santa will help, or if he knows that the rest of the family is looking forward to Santa coming.
