A monstrously fun baby shower!

I co-hosted a "Monster" baby shower for my friend Rhonda this past weekend. I have to admit--I cooked this idea up originally as a birthday party for one of my kids...but I have SO many party ideas and not enough birthdays, so I decided to use the theme for a baby shower. Rhonda is expecting a "little monster" (ie: a boy!) so she was totally fine with the concept. She wasn't picky, either, so I had free reign to do whatever I wanted. So I really ran with it...my color theme was baby blue, lime green, and orange, with a few pops of brighter colors to dress it all up. I found my papers at hobby lobby and used them to make the banners, invitations, thank you cards, pennants, and buffet signs. I also found a really cute "monster" font online for free that really tied it all together. Here was the font on the "Beasty Buffet":
I knew I wanted to do a diaper cake (despite having no clue WHAT I was doing!) and I think it turned out well. The monster topper was actually a kids shower mitt from Kohl's and then I found cute baby accessories in the right colors to put on each layer. Josh helped me roll about a zillion diapers for it.
We used more monsters on the mantel--I got those at Oriental Trading. Here is the banner I made with the babies name on it:
My favorite parts were the food and drinks. Here is a basket of water bottles sitting on a pair of monster feet. These were actually toys of my boys that worked great with the colors and theme!
I customized the water bottles with ribbon and the monster font:
Here was the bar:
The biggest hit was the "Monstertinis" or punch with vodka and rock candy swizzle sticks. I also put fun little monsters at the base of the glasses. Each drink was unique too--as you ate your rock candy and twirled it in your glass the beverages would change color. Very fun!
Monster pops from Oriental Trading:
The cake and cupcakes were made by a friend of the mommy to be. She did a great job--they really tied the theme together.

I loved these little glasses--I called them "Monster tentacles" but they are carrots and celery with blue cheese dressing in the base of the glass. Such a neat idea! I picked it up while blog surfing party sites.
Overall it was a really fun party--everyone seemed to enjoy the food and I got lots of compliments on the decorations. I wish I could plan parties more often--it was so much fun. I think I already have themes picked out for the next several YEARS for my own children's birthdays!
