Lego Lover

Lucas is much like me...he gets obsessed with one thing and it becomes his entire focus for a period. We have gone through Thomas the Train, Transformers, and now, we are on Legos. He got several new sets for Christmas (all featured above) and I figured that would be enough to tide him over for a while. How wrong I was. He had them all put together (by himself I might add) by the end of Christmas day. I was a little bummed (as I hoped these sets would at least earn me a week of quite play...grrrr). He is really cute when he works on the sets--he uses the "map" (ie the instruction manual) and diligently puts every piece together, then once he is done he will play with the set for a good long while until he gets bored. But, having put all these together so quickly, he was already begging for us to go buy more Legos...when Scott and Jenn swooped in with a wonderful surprise:

A lady at our church was selling her grandson's old Lego sets--about twenty different sets altogether. Lucas was ecstatic. The catcher was that all these sets were combined together--but the maps were included in the bag. So we washed all the individual pieces, pulled out the big fans to dry them off and then it took three people several hours to separate all the pieces by color (to make it easier for Lucas to find pieces he needed as he builds them). So far he comes home from school every day and grabs a "map" and tries to work on his Legos. And he has already asked me for a Lego themed birthday party next year. We will have to see if the obsession lasts that long. Notice he also has on the Star Wars Lego PJ's I couldn't resist buying him.
