Sorry about the lack of posts this past week, but we were taking a quick vacation to Shreveport to visit the families. Of course, Josh and I are all about the food on our vacation and Shreveport offers up some of our favs--including Johnny's Pizza (home of the "Sweep the Swamp"--we tried it once and all I can say is that gator should never be a pizza ingredient!), Imperial Cathey (best Empress Chicken EVER), Copeland's (New Orleans style southern), Ralph and Kacoo's (awesome hushpuppies and seafood), and Strawn's Eat Shop ( home cooking, hashbrowns, and pies--brings back major high school memories). Another fav that we hit was Superior Grill. As my father pointed out, it's really for the "yuppies"--the place is always crowded and a band is always jamming. You can't hear a word anyone is saying, but you just don't care cuz you are too busy noshing on salsa and spicey mexican fare. Oh, and don't forget the drinks-- I had a little too much so it was a serious pump and dump night for the nursing momma, but boy was I happy for a while there...),

And I can't forget Southern Maid Donuts--get em while they are hot and they melt in your mouth (Krispy Kreme ain't got nothing on SM!). A trip the the Port just wouldn't be the same without a run to the Maid. Lucas particularly liked the donut holes, which he dubbed the "little ones". Josh and I also squeezed in a parents night out to Jack Binions Steakhouse (just veggies and cheesy grits for me) and that was a culinary treat--the portions were huge, the waiter was very nice (didn't even blink when we asked for a second bowl of butter like the gluttons we are), and I saw someone pay for dinner with poker chips for the first time in my life (apparently a regular occurance at Horseshoe). So we returned home several pounds heavier (the diet starts this week!)

Of course, family and fun were part of the vacation, too. We had a big volleyball pool showdown at my parents house and all of Josh's family came over to join in the fun. Anthony got to hold and meet Alex for the first time as seen above. And below is a funny picture from our night volleyball round later that evening--Scott was being silly and no one could keep a straight face for the photo. What a fun, relaxing week!

You should write for the BBB or tourism bureau of Shreveport!! I didn't know that our fair city could sound so great (as far as restaurants go)but I guess we tend to take it all for granted as we eat out often here. Too bad you didn't get in on the movie film industry action here or you could have included a review of that (ha ha). I saw a film crew right down the street from my office today and of course they were filming at a house around the corner from our house last month. Glad that ya'll had a good time. We loved it.
