A quick observation

Alex has had an EXPLOSION of growth over the last few weeks. We have no idea if it was always destined to be that way, or if moving him to his new developmental school has really helped, but we are embracing it. Every day he says new words, does new things. It is amazing to watch, and frankly, a bit of relief. He may always remain developmentally delayed, but hopefully with not such a wide margin of delay. One thing Josh and I have both observed is that it appears our difficult little dude is going to throw us a loop on one more thing...he's gonna be left handed. We can't be positive--all the articles I've read say that hand dominance is not necessarily true until after the age of two. But, I find it hard to believe he is going to all the sudden switch his preferences at that magical 24 months. (He is 22 months now...) I don't have any family members who are left handed, but I had a few friends growing up who griped about how many things were more challenging to lefties. So it causes me a little concern...we are already facing challenges with Alex's development and this will just add to it. I've placed calls to all his therapists to see if they have recommendations on how to help a little lefty make his way in the world--but I'm taking suggestions from friends, too! I am comforted by my husband who pointed out that one of our (his) golfing favs--Phil Mickelson (who won the masters this past weekend) is a left hander, and he seems to be doing just fine for himself. I know my fears are stupid and irrational--I just don't want my child to have any more difficulties on his path!

One of our friends is a lefty and offered to help us out. Sure he has some wisdom to throw your way. I'll make sure to get him to little man's birthday party so you can quiz him.

When Disco's aunt thought one of our kiddos might be left handed she was HORRIFIED. I mean much more than the concern you have expressed(I don't know what she would have thought if either kid was delayed - the horror! You guys seriously handle Alex so well!!!!! And I would be concerned in your shoes as well - you want the best for your kiddos!)

Doubting either of ours is left handed (although the jury is still out for little man).

oh - and little man did the same thing with his development. one day he was saying one word here and another there. and then BOOM he was using 3-4 word sentences, overnight.

and we are so dumb - we couldn't figure out what he called big sis forever. finally i realized he re-named her to "guh guh". he won't call her any other name. i thought it was actually pretty cute!
