Warning: SPOILER ALERT--don't read if you haven't read the book yet!Seven books, 4224 pages, six defense against the darks arts teachers, one lightning shaped scar, multiple deaths on both sides, and it all came down to the last few sentances where Harry sums it up nicely with his last thoughts in the book: "all was well"
I have read these stories for over ten years of my life and it was with joy and sorrow that I went to pick up my book Friday night. We ended up being the first in line at Barnes and Noble--arriving at 5:45 to ensure that we could get our books first thing. Some might call that crazy, but I call it devoted. After playing cards, answering HP trivia, having a carpet picnic dinner, enjoying all the great costumes of the fans (pictures above include Mad-Eye, Trelawney, Snape, and two adorable Hogwarts students--just some of my fav costumes), and sitting not two feet from the boxes of sealed books we were rewarded by being the first ones to get our books at 12:01 am. I quickly turned to read the end first--I'm sorry but I had to know if Harry lived or died. I ended up being unable to put the book down and read all through the night. I had cried three times by page 89. When I put the book down at 6 am I was emotionally and physically exhausted. I feel like a chapter of my life has closed because the story has ended. Thank you to JK Rowling for creating such a fabulous tale. Thank you to all the crazy fans who feel all the same things I do when I open the books. Thank you to those friends I have who are just as insane as me and will continue to chat and speculate about the books for years to come. Goodbye Harry Potter (for now--I am sure I will reread these a million times in the future--and one day share them with my children).
All is well.
