10 things for 2010

I’ve realized that writing New Year’s Resolutions is simply laughable for me; I don’t keep them. In fact, I think I take the concept of a resolution and run the opposite direction with it. I don’t think I accomplished a single thing I resolved to do last year. So to hell with ‘em. This year, I’m simply going to write about ten things I am looking forward to in the year 2010.

1. The MOST exciting thing in our lives for 2010 has to be the fact that Josh will finish his residency in June. It has been a looooooong road, but we are FINALLY at the end and we could not be happier. Much partying to be had in June!!

2. Weddings. It seems like the year of the wedding—we have multiple friends and family members tying the knot (we’ve already attended one wedding in New Orleans since the New Year…pictures will come eventually). Of course, our most anticipated is Scott and Jenn on March 20th. Hard to believe my little brother is going to be a husband!

3. Baby Chance will arrive. Yep, you read it here (if you hadn’t already heard). Our family of four will become five. We are crossing our fingers for a girl! Lucas insists the “baby in my belly” is his sister, so we’ll see!

4. Lucas will start pre-K in the fall. I am registering him later this month, and we are hoping we get into our top choice of schools. It will be a very different experience for all of us…I can’t believe my baby is starting his education. (I’m an emotional sap…I got teary during the tours of the schools.)

5. We’ll have to buy a new car for me. I realize that’s a shallow thing to look forward to, but I’ve been driving the Escape for five years now, and I’m tired of it. I really want a Beamer, but I’ll be getting a Ford. Something that can seat three across the back!

6. My retirement. Again. I feel like I’ve been there, done that, but now that Josh will be bringing in a real income, I am going to hang up my hat and say adios to retail forever.

7. Speaking of careers, now that Josh will finally have achieved his ultimate goal, I can turn towards figuring out what I want to be when I grow up =). I have a feeling more classes are somewhere in my future…hopefully some involving photography.

8. Now to the really shallow stuff…2010 hopefully brings the return of decent TV. I was appalled when everything went on hiatus in late November and I have been in TV-withdrawal. But thankfully, my shows are returning!! Yippee. Now I have a reason to actually pay the cable bill…at least until summer hits.

9. 2010 also brings the release of some much-anticipated movies. The two biggest I am looking forward to are “Eclipse” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” (or whatever they are calling it). I will probably like both much much less than the books, but nevertheless, I am eagerly awaiting them. I’m thinking midnight showings for both.

10. And finally—we have made plans to go to the beach this summer. We have not been in several years and I have missed it like mad. Of all the vacations we ever take, the beach just soothes my soul and makes me feel whole. Maybe it’s the sun or the great food we stuff ourselves with. Or the peace and beauty of the area. Or possibly the great outlet shopping. Who knows, but whatever it is, I am so excited it will be a part of our lives again this year.

So there you go. Ten cool things about the year 2010. Ten things guaranteed to make it into a scrapbook (at some unseeable point in the future when I finally get caught up!) Ten things you will probably get a repeat of on the blog as they occur. Ten things to make our lives more fun and complete. Ten things that are way better than any resolution I would have ignored!
